Marvin Harris, Lincoln Tech Instructor: My name is Marvin Harris. I’m an instructor at Lincoln Tech. Lincoln Tech campus in South Plainfield, New Jersey. I’ve taught for nearly 24 years. I’ve been at Lincoln officially for around 14 years. However, I taught ten times prior at Engine City Tech, which was eventually bought from Lincoln Tech when I had gone. Then I’m back, do you know? Teaching is my first passion, and I enjoy the work I do. I am a massive fan of the college campus. I am awed by my colleagues. We’re like one big family. This is where everyone is picked up when they arrive at our campus.

Harris, If you are accepted to our diesel technology course, There are 13 courses that you can take. They’re separated by a month and cover all aspects of diesel tech. When we refer to diesel technology, it’s using diesel engines in different sectors like marine transport, construction industrial applications, refrigeration systems, and power generation. That’s why they’re everywhere using diesel engines can be found, and this includes some electrical work such as troubleshooting engines, welding, and fundamental abilities. In essence, there are five basic abilities you’ll master that will allow you to transition to almost every industry.

One is welding. The other is electrical, as you know, engines, mechanical processes, as well as making use of software. These are the skills you require to work in the current market, and the possibilities are available regarding job opportunities and professions. It’s a lot to say; I’ll begin by being a general mechanical technician, where you repair equipment. This could be in an industry in construction, or it could be in the automotive industry, or it could be in large trucks or the heavy, medium, and heavy-duty truck industries. After further education, you can also work on marine [equipment]. You’ll see transportation equipment at airports, airport ground support equipment, and fire apparatus. There are a myriad of ways you could choose for people who like to be hands-on.

We teach management training. You can also be a writer for service. You could also work as a shop foreman, and you’re just required to fill out the paperwork. However, we usually focus on the role of a service writer since you’ll need a bit of mechanical knowledge and know-how the shop operates and how to deal with the customer, but mechanics too. Therefore, one of the things I do in teaching the course is to show students the roles of each individual on the managerial side, starting with the foreman’s role and responsibility, and finally, the service writer who acts as the person who acts as an intermediary between the technician, the customer, and the upper management. They are then taught about the job of shop supervisor and their duties. I don’t get to the owner level since it’s different. The owner can be one or the other, working together to make repairs and meet customers’ demands.
